KOCHI: A special team has been appointed to investigate the Walayar case. Nishandhini IPS will be in charge of the investigation. The team also comprises Crime Branch SP AS Raju and DCP Hemalatha. The special team will submit an application for further investigation at the POCSO court on Wednesday.

Palakkad SP has clarified that the case diary and other findings have been handed over to the new investigation team. On 13th January 2017, the elder girl was found hanging in Walayar. 52 days later, her younger sister was found hanging in the same way. The younger sister was the only eye witness to the first death. Although several people pointed that there was some mystery surrounding the two deaths, the investigation team found that the children had committed suicide.

The post-mortem report later found that both the sisters had been sexually abused. The case was later handed over to MJ Sojan, DYSP, Narcotics Cell. There were initially four accused in the case. Later, a 16-year-old was also arrested in connection with the case.
