THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a board meeting, the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Trust abandoned the decision to provide facilities for Pongala for the devotees at the temple premises. This time Pongala will be held only in the 'Pandara Aduppu'-the main hearth. The trust suggested that those who want to perform Pongala should do so in their homes. The decision was taken due to the spread of Covid-19. On the day of Pongala, devotees will be allowed to visit temple as per Covid protocol. If permission is given for Pongala in the temple premises, there will be recommendations from many quarters for the opportunity which will be difficult to accomplish which is why the decision was taken.
Another important event, Kuthiyottam, will also be regulated. Only the 'Pandara Ottam' will take place. The 'Pandara Ottam' and the Pongala at the 'Pandara Aduppu' are held solely for ceremonial purposes. All other ceremonies will be conducted as per the Covid norms, the temple trust secretary K Sisupalan Nair said.
