KOCHI: KCBC has registered strong protest over Chandy Oommen’s controversial speech. KCBC had condemned Chandy Oommen’s speech in which he said that churches in Europe have either become market places or dance bars. The controversial speech was made by him in a programme organised by the youth league. KCBC has said that youth leaders ignorance on Chruch’s history in Kerala is painful.

The youth league has organised the programme on the Halal sticker controversy. “In Turkey, the Hagia Sophia church was converted into mosque and Churches have become dance bars. Nobody seems to have an issue over that,” Chandy Oommen said in his speech. Congress sources say that KCBC’s stand on Chandy Ommen’s speech could prove detrimental to the youth leader, who is planning to gain a foothold in the state ahead of the assembly polls.

Chandy Ommen’s spiteful speech comes when there is a general perception that Congress is distancing itself from Christian factions. CPM workers are using video footage of the speech as a political instrument.
