THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister KK Shailaja said that the central government had on Friday announced that 4,06,500 doses of vaccine would be made available in the state to provide COVID vaccine to those above 60 years of age.1,38,000 doses will be brought to Thiruvananthapuram while Ernakulam and Kozhikode will receive 1,59,500 and 1,09,000 doses respectively. The Minister said that the registration of persons above 60 years of age will start as per the guidelines of the centre. She said that the state has started all the preparations for this. The state is ready to make the COVID vaccine free in private hospitals as well, Shailaja said.
Vaccination centers will be set up in the immediate vicinity for those above 60 years of age. The minister said that vaccination facilities were being set up at about 300 private hospitals.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Health Minister was convened to review the vaccination process. The meeting reviewed the work done so far.
The minister directed to speed up the vaccination of frontline fighters and election officials. Registration of frontline fighters and election officials has been completed. Therefore, the registration of persons above 60 years of age can be started as per the guidelines of the centre.
