THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM is gearing for talks to determine candidates for the assembly polls. On March four, the CPM state secretariat and state committee will convene meetings. The district committee will also start talks to formulate the draft list of possible candidates from each district.

Seat sharing talks with CPI will be held today or tomorrow. CPM will also meet leaders of the Jose K Mani faction to discuss assembly seat distribution. The state secretariat evaluated that the preparation of the election manifesto is in its last phase.

Even though the CPI executive meeting will be held on March 3, it is not known whether the meeting will consider the draft list of possible candidates. It might have to sacrifice two or three seats among the 27 seats on which it contested last time. Whereas CPM which contested 92 seats in 2016, might limit itself to 80-81 seats this time. Four seats each will be given to Janata Dal(S) and LJD. JDS which contested in five seats in 2016 might lose Vadakara this time, it will be given to LJD.

Like last time, INL will be given four seats. NCP and Democratic Kerala Congress which contested in four seats previously might have to satisfy with two seats and other minor parties might get one seat each.

LDF’s campaign processions were a success

The party secretariat also evaluated that LDF’s campaign processions were a success. The party secretariat has also asked district committees to analyse whether the opposition’s campaign on the deep sea fishing controversy will impact the voters in coastal areas.

The leaders who took part in the meet also said that the government’s empathetic stand on the protests conducted by PSC rank holders has convinced the voters. The meet which ended on the general understanding that a conducive political atmosphere prevails to get another term, also observed that there are possibilities for an illegal nexus between UDF and BJP in this assembly polls.
