PALAKKAD: An agreement has been reached at the district secretariat meeting regarding the CPM candidates in the Palakkad district for the assembly elections. When the party considered the name of Minister AK Balan's wife Jameela in Tharoor and Kongad seats, most of the district secretariat members opposed it. However, the leaders informed the district secretariat that Jameela's name was suggested by the party's state leadership. Tharoor and Kongad are the reserved constituencies in the district.
Meanwhile, the party decided to field MB Rajesh against Congress MLA VT Balram in Thrithala. Although the decision was questioned by a section, the district secretariat said that Rajesh could win the constituency by defeating Balram.
The district secretariat also nominated DYFI Palakkad district president CP Sumod in Kongad and party state secretary A. Vijayaraghavan in Malampuzha.
