PALAKKAD: A father who entered a well to take a bucket and the son who attempted to save him died of suffocation. The deceased are Kuzhalmandam native Ramachandran (55) and son Sreehari(22). The incident took place at around 5.30 pm on Sunday.

Ramachandran entered the well after a bucket fell into it. According to sources, Ramachandran fell unconscious inside the well as he was unable to breathe. Seeing this, his son Sreehari and neighbour Nithin entered the well to save him. However, Sreehari too collapsed due to suffocation. Though Nithin attempted to save Sreehari, he was not able to take him out of the well. Nithin was rescued by the locals who reached the house after hearing the cries of Ramachandran's wife Padmavathi. Soon, the Kottayam police and a fire force team from Alathur reached the area after receiving information. By the time the fire force team managed to take the bodies of the father and the son out of the well, the two had died. The bodies were shifted to the District Hospital mortuary.
