THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A murder accused, who escaped from the Poojappura Central Jail on September 7, surrendered in the court. Jahir Hussain (48), a native of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, surrendered at the Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The prison department and the local police had launched a massive manhunt in the city and outskirts to trace him. He stated that he escaped from the jail to see his wife. He came with his wife and son to surrender.

Hussain imprisoned for life in a murder case, escaped while engaged in laundry work and without being noticed by assistant prison officer. He escaped wearing a shirt given for laundry. He had escaped from the jail earlier also. Still engaging him in outside work is seen as a lapse from the side of the jail authorities. The police came to know about his escape only after an hour. By the time he got the chance to escape from the city.
