THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Double low pressure is the reason for the heavy rains in the state, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. 39 have lost their lives in the flash floods and landslides. Six people are still missing, the chief minister informed the assembly.

The assembly paid homage to the victims. The dead families’ grief is the grief of Kerala. All assistance would be provided to the victims, the chief minister told the assembly. 217 houses were completely destroyed and 1393 houses partially destroyed in the disaster. 3851 families were shifted to relief centres.

The opposition demanded to examine whether rescue operations were delayed. The leaders said they would fully support relief measures. The assembly session was adjourned for two days in the backdrop of rain ravages.
