KOTTAYAM: Heavy rains continue in the state as central Kerala received heavy rainfall. Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts are receiving heavy rainfall. The low-lying areas of Mundakkayam were flooded due to heavy rains. Water flooded Erumeli-Mundakkayam state highway. A landslide occurred in Thekkinkkooppu in Vandanpathal. There are no casualties. The water level in the Manimala river is rising.
Heavy rains continue in the Koottikkal, a place hit by landslides recently. Heavy rains are also reported in Pathanamthitta. A landslide occurred in the Angamoozhi forest.
A yellow alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts on Sunday. Yellow alerts were issued in 11 districts on Monday and in eight districts on Tuesday. Orange alerts were issued in four districts on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a cyclone near Kanyakumari in the Arabian Sea and a low pressure area along the Kerala-Karnataka coast are continuing, resulting in heavy rains, the Met office said. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon will arrive in Kerala on Tuesday.
