KOCHI: Five Congress leaders have been granted bail in the case of attack on actor Joju George's car. The Kochi CJM court has granted bail to five persons, including former Kochi mayor Tony Chammany. According to the section pertaining to the destruction of private property, half of the amount has to be paid for the repairs as security, according to which each of them has to pay Rs 37,500. In addition, two sureties of Rs 50,000 each have to be produced in court. The leaders will leave the jail at 10.30 am tomorrow. After hearing their arguments yesterday, the court adjourned the verdict till today. In the seven persons involved in the case, two more persons are to be granted bail.
The plaintiffs had stated in their bail application that they were willing to pay half of the amount for the repair of the car and that bail should be granted. The prosecution told the court that the vehicle would cost Rs 6.5 lakh to repair. The prosecutor wanted the accused to pay half the price of the car. The assailants smashed the window of Jojo George's Land Rover Defender car. Meanwhile, the Mahila Congress today marched to the Marad station to protest against the non-filing of a case against Joju. The complaint of the Mahila Congress was that the actor was drunk and said obscene things. Earlier, the police had said that there was no evidence to file a case against Jojo.
