IDUKKI: Authorities have opened a shutter of the Idukki as the water level increased following heavy rain. The shutter was opened at 2 pm. Shutter number 3 of the dam has been raised by 40 cm. 40,000 litres of water is being released from the dam every second. The current water level of the dam is recorded at 2398.90 feet. A red alert will be issued if the water level reaches 2399.03. The dam has been opened to regulate the water level in the dam.

With the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam rising, authorities are likely to raise the shutter of the spillway. The Idukki dam has been opened to regulate the water that reaches through the spillway. Authorities said that people living on both sides of the Periyar river should remain extra vigilant.
