NEW DELHI: The CPM's political resolution is not to form an alliance with the Congress at the national level. PB approved the draft political resolution to be presented at the party congress. The draft will be finalized by the central committee, which meets in January. The central committee will meet in Hyderabad from January 7 to 9, party general secretary Sitaram Yechury said.

At the national level, however, the CPM did not reject the Bengal model alliance, though the party has no alliance with the Congress. The draft political resolution states that the electoral alliance with the Congress at the local level will continue under special circumstances. The PB criticized the Congress for taking a soft-Hindutva stance. Rahul Gandhi's Jaipur speech is an example of this. The PB meeting also assessed that regional parties are effectively confronting the BJP.

There was a strong disagreement on the Congress alliance at the last central committee and politburo meeting. In the last PB, it was agreed that the Congress could form alliances with regional parties as well as in some states like West Bengal.
