KOCHI: More are likely are to be arrested in connection with the violence unleashed by the workers of KITEX at Kizhakkambalam. There are indications that 300 are to be arraigned in the case. The remand proceedings of those arrested in the case were completed late last night.
A special investigation team will conduct a detailed investigation on the incident. CCTV and mobile phone footages will be examined. The migrant workers will be questioned. The investigators will meet today and discuss about the further steps to be taken. The issue is likely to be discussed at the state cabinet meet to be convened here today.
A 19-member team led by Perumbavoor ASP Anooj Paliwal is probing the incident. The main task is to find the cause of the conflict. So far 164 people have been arrested. KITEX MD Sabu Jacob yesterday said the police had also arrested the innocent and would ensure legal assistance to them.
A clash broke out between workers during Christmas celebrations. When the police team reached the spot on being informed, the workers turned towards them. Five police officers including Kunnathunadu circle inspector Shajan were seriously injured in the attack.
