MM Varghese elected as CPM Thrissur secretary, T Sasidharan included in district committee, Babu M Palissery removed

THRISSUR: CPM re-elected MM Varghese as Thrissur district secretary. The district conference held at the Thrissur Indoor Stadium for two days unanimously elected him as the secretary. Of the 44-member district committee, 12 are newcomers. Former MLA Babu M Palissery was removed from the committee.

T Sasidharan, who was demoted 12 years ago on the grounds of sectarianism, was also included in the district committee. There are 12 newcomers including Balaji M Palissery. Balaji was convicted in the murder of an RSS worker. MM Varghese was elected as the District Secretary on June 30, 2018 after K Radhakrishnan, the former District Secretary, became a member of the Central Committee. MM Varghese, 70, was a member of the CITU Central Working Committee and Secretary of State. He has also served as CITU District President, Perambra Apollo Tires Employees Union (CITU) President and State President of the Foreign Liquor Workers Union.
