NEW DELHI: The counting of votes in five states including Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Punjab is under progress. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP lead has crossed 114 seats, followed by the Samajwadi Party (SP) with a lead in 80 seats. In Gorakhpur, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is leading.

The BJP is also gaining strength in Uttarakhand, with a lead in 36 seats and the Congress is leading in 22 seats. In Goa, Congress has a lead in 20 seats, whereas BJP is leading in 16 seats. The state’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is not in the lead. However, Trinamool Congress is leading in four seats in the state.

In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress are leading in 39 and 21 seats respectively. Manipur is witnessing raging combat as well.

The whole country is keen on the results in Uttar Pradesh, often described as the ‘semifinals before the next Lok Sabha polls’. The exit poll survey results had predicted a continuation of governance for the BJP under Yogi Adityanath. In Punjab, as per survey results, AAP will win over the Congress. In Manipur, the results will be in favour of BJP, whereas a raging fight is expected between Congress and BJP in Uttarakhand. Surveys have predicted the possibility of a hung cabinet in Goa, which has a 40-member assembly.

The counting of votes in the five states namely Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand had begun at 8 am, on Thursday.
