THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dissatisfaction among Congress has been revealed as the vacant Rajya Sabha seat of Congress was given to Mahila Congress State President Jeby Mather. RSP state secretary A A Azeez alleged that Jeby Mather's seat was a payment seat. Azeez made the allegations while speaking at an RYF delegate meeting. As his statement became controversial, he explained that he did not say so and it was only an interpretation.

'Many people were trying for the Rajya Sabha seat. Who got it last? Jeby Mather. She bought by paying cash. ' This was Azeez's speech. He had said that the seat was given to a young person belonging to minority category. Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan reacted strongly to Azeez's speech and demanded that N K Premachandran MP should advise Azeez and take action against him.

Congress High Command approved the name of Jeby Mather after several discussions. A woman is becoming a member of Rajya Sabha from the Congress after 42 years. The previous member was Leela Damodara Menon in 1980.
