LUCKNOW: Yogi Adityanath will swear in as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, a state where BJP won a thumping victory for a second consecutive term, on Friday. The event, scheduled at 4 pm, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union ministers, BJP national and state leaders and 11 chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, among others. Reports suggest that Vivek Agnihotri, the director of ‘The Kashmir Files’ and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut are also likely to attend the ceremony, to be held at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Yogi, who had led the BJP to a resounding victory in the state for a second time, was also unanimously elected as the legislature party leader on Thursday. Following which, he met the governor and staked claim to form government in the state.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has decided to retain his MLA post in Karhal by quitting as MP from Azamgarh. The decision was made to take over the opposition leadership in Uttar Pradesh. In the wake of the party’s not-so-bad performance in the state assembly polls, the party had evaluated that it was appropriate for Akhilesh Yadav to focus on the state.
