CHALAKUDY: An infamous thief who steals old model two-wheelers and sells them in Tamil Nadu and around Chalakudy was arrested by a team led by DySP C R Santhosh and circle inspector K S Sandeep. The accused has been identified as Pariyaram Munippara native Blackman Nazi aka Nazir (43) of Kizhakkumthala house.

He has been caught after months of investigation. Theft of old bikes have been quite common in many places in Chalakudy. Many refrained from lodging police complaints as the vehicles were pretty old. No hints were found in case of registered cases as well.

Surveillance cameras in the city, which were damaged by the floods, have also hampered the investigation. Meanwhile, an investigation into the theft of a two-wheeler from Anamalai junction a month ago, led to further probe into the incident.

The police, on checking the surveillance cameras in the area, had found the footage of a man with a covered face. This led to suspicion about Nazir, who was living in Pollachi. While the investigation team arrived, he fled to Valparai. Meanwhile, Nazir, who was disguised, was caught by the police while he was trying to steal an old scooter at South junction. The investigation team comprised of sub inspectors Jinumon, Jofi Jose, C A Job, Satheesan Madappattil, Roy Paulose, P M Moosa, V U Siljo, P M Shiyaz, A U Reji, M J Binu and Shjio Thomas.
