KOZHIKODE: Three Malayalees, who were held captive by Houthi rebels in Yemen, were released. Relatives of the Keralites have received information regarding their release. The released captives have been identified as Kottayam native Sreejith, Alappuzha native Akhil and Kozhikode native Dipash.

A ship crew, including three Malayalees, was taken hostage during a Saudi-Houthi dispute, in the beginning of this year. The terrorists had captured their UAE cargo ship from Al-Huda on January 2. The ship was seized and 11 crew members were detained for violating maritime boundaries. There were seven Indians, including three Keralites, among the crew members. Three of them have been released amid ongoing efforts at the diplomatic level. The freed captives have spoken with their relatives in Kerala. It is learnt that they will arrive home soon.
