NEW DELHI: Prema Kumari, mother of Nimisha Priya, a Malayali nurse jailed in Yemen after being sentenced to death, gets permission to meet her. The authorities of Yemeni prison gave permission for the meeting. Nimisha Priya is in jail in Sana'a. Prema Kumari and action council member Samuel Jerome arrived in Aden, Yemen. Samuel Jerome, a native of Tamil Nadu and a member of the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, is also the CEO of an airline company in Sanaa.

The Yemeni authorities have directed Prema Kumari to reach the jail this afternoon. Prema Kumari is meeting her daughter after eleven years. Efforts are also being made to discuss her release with the head of the Gothra community.

Efforts are being made to settle the victim's family by paying blood money. If the relatives forgive her, it will pave way for her release. In 2017, she was awarded death sentence in the case of killing Talal Abdo Mahdi, a Yemeni citizen, by injecting him with sedatives to reclaim her passport that he had confiscated and an overdose resulted in his death.

Although the central government opposed the journey of Prema Kumari, the favorable stand of the Delhi High Court turned vital. The center’s stand was that insurgents rule in Sana'a and security cannot be guaranteed. The high court had directed that Prema Kumari should hand over the information related to the trip to the Center and give an affidavit that she is going to Yemen on her own responsibility.
