murder

THODUPUZHA: The death of a middle-aged man at a bus stand in the city after bleeding from a leg injury has been called murder by the police. Abdul Salam (Ambi-52), a resident of Udumbannur, was hacked to death during a dispute pertaining to alcohol, police said. Seleena (50), a resident of Thekkethil Veedu in Pannimattom, has been arrested in connection with the case.

The incident took place around 7 pm on Monday. Abdul Salam, who is involved in many robbery cases, used to sleep regularly in the bus waiting area near the town hall. On Monday evening, Seleena arrived here and demanded the liquor that Abdul Salam had, which he refused to give. There was a quarrel between the two over this. Meanwhile, Seleena Abdul hacked Salam just above his leg. He was gravely wounded and walked through the city bleeding. Then he went to the waiting shed and lay down.

By then, there was a significant amount of bleeding. On receiving the information from the people, the police rushed him to the district hospital in Thodupuzha and later to the Kottayam Medical College. But he died Tuesday morning. With this, the police took Seleena into custody. But Seleena was adamant that she was not the person who attacked Salam. In the investigation conducted by the cops, they realized that Abdul Salam went to several people in the city and told them that Selina hacked him.

Selina confessed to the crime during a detailed interrogation yesterday. An arrest was registered on the basis of this. The accused was then taken to the crime scene where she testified before the police about the attack.

After being cut and wounded, the knife was thrown down from the bridge near the comfort station near Municipal Park. This was discovered by the police during evidence collection. After this, Seleena went to the comfort station near the super bazaar where she regularly stays and changed her clothes. Police found blood-stained clothes used during the evidence collection. The accused, who was produced in court, was remanded.

After the post-mortem at Kottayam Medical College, the body was handed over to Abdul Salam's relatives. According to the Thodupuzha CI VC Vishnukumar, the surgeon had indicated that the death might be due to excessive bleeding.
