THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George has said that there is a possibility of an increase in dengue and rat-bite fever due to climate change in the state. Early treatment is needed for both of these diseases. Sometimes even muscle aches and back pain can also be symptoms of this disease. Therefore, self-treatment is not allowed. The minister was speaking after a review meeting of the health ministry to strengthen the fight against communicable diseases.
Extreme care is needed in the next four months. Strong preventive measures are needed against infectious diseases. Fever clinics in hospitals will be strengthened. Doxy Corners will be set up in all hospitals to provide anti-rat fever pills.
People who are exposed to water or soil should take doxycycline, an anti-rat fever pill. Mosquito sources were also seen inside homes in areas where dengue cases have been reported the most in recent years. District Officers will conduct field level inspections to identify potential mosquito breeding grounds and to strengthen preventive measures. The minister said that the correct measures will be taken as per the health vigilance calendar.
Suggestions
Care should be taken not to allow mosquitoes to grow on the tray behind the fridge, small vessels under the plant pots, water coolers and flower vases. The water in these should be changed at least once a week.
Dry day should be observed by destroying the source of mosquitoes once a week.
Once a week, properly dispose items such as discarded scraps, discarded plastic containers, non-perishable waste, unused tires, buckets, etc. and bury them safely.
Mosquitoes are more likely to enter the house in the morning and evening. Close the doors and windows of the house during those times.
