Second successful liver transplant in govt hospital, pride moment for Kottayam Medical College once again

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The second liver transplant in the government sector has also been successful, said Health Minister Veena George. Randeep, who had been undergoing treatment in Kottayam Medical College after liver transplantation surgery, was discharged. He was discharged after two weeks of treatment. The surgical gastro team, led by hospital superintendent Dr Jayakumar, had bid farewell to him. Randeep requires a few months rest and further treatment. His sister Deepa, who donated her liver, was discharged a week ago. The minister congratulated all the team members, including surgical gastro department head Dr Sindhu, who had led the surgery.

The minister had met with Randeep’s relatives at Kottayam Medical College on May 10. She spoke with his wife, relatives and doctors. In addition, she also spoke with Randeep and his sister via video call. The next goal is to make the liver transplant surgery a reality in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The Medical College is well-equipped for the surgery. Patients have been admitted and treatment has begun, said the minister.
