Manichan's release: Governor seeks explanation from government, returns file

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has returned the file on the release of Manichan, who was convicted in the Kalluvathukkal hooch tragedy case. The file was returned to the government seeking an explanation.

Earlier, the supreme court had directed the government to take a decision on Manichan's release within a month. The apex court's order came after examining an e-file handed over by the government in connection with Manichan's release. The court did not disclose the contents of the file. The file was returned by the court to the lawyer. The court had directed that the judgment of the Supreme Court in the Perarivalan case should be taken into consideration while making the decision.
