Sexual assault attempt towards 16-year-old girl traveling with father; all accused above 50

THRISSUR: A six-member team tried to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl during a train journey. The victim was travelling with her father from Thrissur on Ernakulam-Guruvayur Special Express. The girl and her father revealed that they tried to touch her leg and talked in an obscene manner. All the accused are above 50.

The incident happened on the train that left Ernakulam at 7.50 pm last night. They started misbehaving after the train left Ernakulam North Station. The girl’s father informed the train guard when the train reached Edapally. He said the police will reach the next station. However, the police did not reach even after reaching Aluva. He later lodged a complaint with the railway police in Thrissur. Those involved in the incident got off the stations in between Aluva to Irinjalakuda. Attempts are made to trace them with the help of the CCTV visuals.

Fazil, a youth from Malappuram, who was sitting opposite to the girl and who witnessed the entire act tried to stop them. However, they beat Fazil. When the girl tried to capture the act on her mobile, the miscreants grabbed her phone. The railway police has registered a case on charges under POCSO against the six involved in the incident.
