Heavy rain forecast in state today, orange alert in seven districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a warning of heavy rain in Kerala today. Orange alert has been declared in seven districts and yellow alert in five districts. It has been predicted that heavy rain will continue till Thursday.

Heavy rain will lash districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki today. Orange alert has been issud today in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki. There is no alert in Wayanad and Kasaragod.

Yellow alert has been announced in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur. Meteorologists have warned that there may be minor flash floods as there will be continuous rain with thunder and lightning.

Meantime, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan asked people to be cautious. The chief minister also directed that the people in the hilly areas should be shifted to the camps immediately as there is a possibility of heavy rain in the next five days. Due to heavy rains in Thiruvananthapuram, the eco-tourism centres of Neyyar, Kottur, Peppara, Ponmudi, Kallar and Mangayam have been closed.
