Supreme Court's direction: Survivor should not be harassed in court

sc

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has come up with an important guideline, including that the cross-examination of the survivor in sexual harassment cases should be completed in a single sitting. Trial Courts should ensure that cross-examination is done in a very dignified and simple manner. It should be taken into account that the survivor comes to court suffering from trauma and societal shame.

The lower courts have the responsibility to properly deal with the problems of those who come to the court suffering from mental trauma and humiliation from society. A bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala directed that the trial should not be torture to the survivor.
