Court sentences man to life imprisonment for killing mother by pouring thinner on her and setting her on fire

THRISSUR: The court has awarded a life sentence and a fine of Rs 1 lakh to a man for killing his mother by pouring thinner on her and setting her on fire. It was the First Additional District Court which sentenced Mullassery native Unnikrishnan to life imprisonment.

The incident took place on March 11, 2020, in Mullassery. Following a dispute with is mother Valliyammu, Unnikrishnan poured the thinner on her body and set her on fire. Valliaymmu, who suffered 95 percent burns, died while undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College. Valliyammu had gone to meet Unnikrishnan's sister who was married to a low-caste man. Unnikrishnan, who questioned this, later poured thinner on Valiyammu and set her on fire.
