Stepfather sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting 13-year-old girl in Marayur

IDUKKI: The stepfather, who sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in Marayur, has been sentenced to imprisonment and a fine. The Idukki fast track court sentenced the girl's stepfather to 30 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 and a half lakhs. The court had found that the man used to repeatedly sexually assault the child when her mother was not at home. The court also ordered to pay Rs 1 lakh to the child as compensation.

The child and her younger sister gave their statement against the accused. However, the mother of the girls defected in favour of the accused during the trial. Although this had hindered the progress of the case, the charges against the accused were proved beyond doubt.
