Man gets 14-year rigorous imprisonment for impregnating minor stepdaughter

NEYYATTINKARA: A man has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl and impregnating her. A fine of Rs 10,000 has also been imposed. Neyyattinkara POCSO court judge Reshmi Sadanand sentenced Maniyan alias Aadu Mani of Maranalloor Thevarakonam, an accused in many cases. The incident happened in 2006. Maniyan, who started living with the girl’s mother after the death of her husband, threatened and sexually abused her many times.

He abused her when her mother, an employee of a private hospital, was not at home. She was found pregnant following an examination conducted as she expressed physical discomfort. He then threatened the woman and her daughter, took them to another hospital and made her abort. Meanwhile, the man, who was on the run in the case of attacking a police officer, returned after six months and when tried to abuse her again, the woman lodged a complaint at the Maranalloor police. Public Prosecutor Ajit Thankaiah and advocate Gopika Gopan appeared for the prosecution.
