THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A petition has been filed in Vigilance court against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stating that the recommendation made to the Governor for the re-appointment of Dr Gopinath Ravindran as Kannur university VC is a breach of oath and nepotism. The court, which accepted the petition filed by Congress leader Jyotikumar Chamakala, will hear the government's arguments on 29th.
The plea is based on Governor's press conference citing that the CM himself has visited him at Raj Bhavan and requested for re-appointment of Dr Gopinath Ravindran as Kannur is his home district. 'Kerala Kaumudi' had reported that a petition will be filed against the Chief Minister in the Vigilance Court. The petitioner informed the court that he had approached the Governor for permission to prosecute the Chief Minister, who had recommended the Governor to consider Gopinath Ravindran as VC, under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The footage of the Governor's press conference and the documents of the correspondence released by the Governor were produced. Deepak JM appeared for the petitioner. Governor who is the appointing officer of Chief Minister should give permission to file a case. The petitioner has submitted two letters sent by CM as evidence.
