THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition teachers' organizations have come up opposing the Khader committee report submitted as part of the radical reforms in the education sector. The Higher Secondary School Teachers' Association said that the second phase report of the Khader Committee contained impractical recommendations.
State leaders of the association said that the second phase report contained very superficial suggestions without considering the specificities and requirements of primary, secondary and higher secondary levels. The recommendation to reduce the existing four core subjects to three in higher secondary will destroy the authenticity of the study and the wider possibility of higher learning. The approach of assessment rather than evaluation is not practical in higher classes.
The recommendation to change the medium of study to Malayalam is also unscientific in higher classes. Changing the medium of study will adversely affect the students in higher classes who are following NCERT syllabus books. The state general secretary of the association, Anil M George, demanded that the recommendations that undermine the existing achievements in the field of public education of Kerala should not be accepted and detailed discussions should be held.
