Congresss should revise policy for national alternative: D Raja

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI General Secretary D Raja said that a national alternative is not possible without the Congress correcting its neoliberal economic policy. All secular and democratic parties should unite to defeat BJP. Inaugurating the state conference ahead of the 24th Party Congress of the CPI, Raja said that the local political parties should introspect.

"The BJP is aggressively implementing the neoliberal economic policies of the Congress. The Congress should at least return to the Nehruvian policy of mixed economy. Local parties should set aside their differences and prepare for unity. The important thing is to defeat the BJP-RSS alliance. If that is not possible, the death knell of democracy will sound. The 2024 election is critical. After the BJP came to power, there was a radical right-wing shift in politics. This will lead to fascism. People's lives became difficult. The fight against these issues is the duty of communists. RSS is trying to gain by creating division in the society," Raja said.

"Some changes are seen in local parties. DMK is ready to align with leftist and secular parties in Tamil Nadu. They oppose central policies that undermine the federal structure. Nitish Kumar has left the BJP camp in Bihar. Some others are also thinking of moving away from the BJP. They should be made aware of the seriousness of the country," he said.

Communist parties should reunite
Raja said that CPI's position is the unification of communist parties in principle. "Other communist parties and groups should introspect on this. Communist reunification was proposed in 1989 by Rajeshwara Rao as the party's general secretary. Although there is coordination of left parties at the national level, there is no coordination in the states. Kerala and Bengal are examples. Ours is the oldest party in the country. First, we must strengthen ourselves to lead the country. Our strength in Parliament is low. Even though it lags behind in electoral politics, the political influence of the party is wide," Raja added.
