Prime Minister Modi pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on Gandhi Jayanti

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Raj Ghat today on Mahatma Gandhi’s 153rd birth anniversary. He paid floral tributes to Gandhi and to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Today is also the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The Prime Minister said that Gandhi Jayanti is very special this year as the country is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. ‘Bapu's ideals should be adopted by everyone in their lives,' he said. Modi also requested all Indians to buy khadi clothes as tribute to Gandhi.

Addressing the nation on Gandhi Jayanti, President Draupadi Murmu said that it is an occasion for all to rededicate themselves to the values of Gandhi’s life – peace, equality and communal harmony. Congress president Sonia Gandhi and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge also visited the Raj Ghat to pay their respects.
