SI suspended for assaulting SFI leader

KOTHAMANGALAM: The Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief on Saturday suspended SI Mahin Saleem of the Kothamangalam police station for assaulting a student. The Rural District Police Chief took the action after the footage of the SI beating up the student went viral on social media. Roshin Renny, SFI Kothamangalam East Secretary and a student of Eldo Mar Baselios College, was assaulted by the SI. Mahin Saleem is a police officer who has received the award for the best investigator from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Roshin and his friends went to the Kothamangalam police station to inquire why a student, who was having food from a street food shop, was taken to the station in a police jeep. An altercation broke out between the police and the students after the police asked for the address of Roshin and his friends. Meanwhile, Mahin, who was in civil dress, came forward and dragged Roshin into the station and beat him on the face and ears. Roshin, who suffered an injury, was admitted to the Kothamangalam taluk hospital. Roshin Renny, a native of Kuthukuzhi, is a second year B.Com student.
