Saudi Arabia supporting Russia? US under fear of sharing defence technology

kk

WASHINGON: As Russia intensifies invasion on Ukraine, America’s hopes of curbing Putin through sanctions are being subverted by friendly nations. A recent decision by OPEC+ countries to cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day next month will bolster Russia. Rising oil prices in the international market is very favorable for Russia in the current situation. This will enable them to secure the support of countries like India that import large quantities of oil. United States is now suspicious of Saudi Arabia's decision to support Russian interests that lead to this.

It is also doubted that Saudi Arabia may transfer US-provided defense technology to Russia, given their closeness to Putin. Richard Blumenthal, a member of the Senate armed services committee has shared this concern. In an interview with ‘The Guardian’, he shared that Saudi Arabia's relation with Russia is a threat to US. In the interview, Richard also proposed a one-year ban on US arms exports to Saudi Arabia. He also hinted that the proposal would receive support in the US Congress.

Saudi Arabia, an ally of the United States, surprised the western countries by cutting down oil production, a decision that favours Russia. Experts believe that this is a big blow to US and Biden administration.
