Pandal collapses during Science fair in Manjeswaram; 40 including children sustain injuries, five in serious condition

KASARGOD: A pandal erected for the science fair at Bekur Government Higher Secondary School at Manjeswaram in Kasaragod, collapsed on Friday. The accident happened in the afternoon during Manjeswaram sub district science fair. The injured has been admitted to a hospital in Mangalpadi. Out of this, five people with head injuries were shifted to a private hospital in Mangalore. Four children and a teacher are undergoing treatment here. It is reported that a total of 40 were injured in the accident. Children, teachers and non-teaching staffs were involved in the accident.

Eyewitnesses said the iron sheets collapsed with a loud noise. Some of the children who ran seeing the pandal collapsing fell on the ground and sustained injuries. There were three pandals in the school courtyard. Two were made of cloth and the other with sheet. The one with the sheet collapsed. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
