Seventy-five thousand educated and unemployed youths in our country will receive job appointments today. The Central Government is going to celebrate India’s biggest job fair with great pomp. Today morning at 11 am, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will inaugurate the fair by giving the appointment order through video conferencing.

There are lakhs of vacancies in the different departments of the central government and in the armed forces. There are many regions where recruitment hasn’t been done for years. The Indian Railways are reeling without enough staff. Around one lakh staff are required for the railways.

The Central Government has drawn up an extensive plan to provide jobs for 10 lakhs of educated youths in the next one and a half years. As the general election is not very far, the proceedings will be faster than usual. Anyhow, the fact that 75,000 persons are appointed for jobs is a great feat in itself.

The Prime Minister has given assurance that the recruitment drive to appoint 9.25 lakh people within one and a half years will be speeded up. Wasting valuable time on unnecessary government procedures is what delays government appointments. In modern times, the recruitment process can be speeded up. The process must be made simple.

All across the country, big corporations are recruiting lakhs of youth every year. Prominent IT companies recruits whom they want after checking for language skills and conducting a simple test and interview. Imitating them, major banks, hospitals, and other big companies are following this recruitment style.

When it comes to recruitment to government posts, there is PSC and UPSC. These institutions are being choked by the same recruitment style followed for years. Even if these institutions cannot recruit like how the private companies are doing, the time for recruitment can be reduced greatly.

The PSC can get the number of vacancies that will become vacant in a year or in two years and it can also conduct a big job fair. Recently, the Andhra Pradesh government conducted a job fair for the recruitment of the health department. The job fair invited 50,000 candidates for a walk-in interview for posts ranging from doctors to lab technicians. The fair was conducted in a manner that anyone who is qualified as per government eligibility could participate in it.

The official proceedings are needed only at the time of appointment of the candidate. This can be seen as a reform to clear the delays caused for appointments. Any new reform in the recruitment process can reduce the waiting for educated youth.
