Security officers guarding the royal residences of the King of Briton are called the King’s Guard. They are usually found during many functions at Buckingham palace wearing red coats and big black hats. The big, black and furry hat is also the main uniqueness of their appearance.
During the funeral service of Queen Elizabeth, this black hat of the King’s Guard became the attention of many people.
But, did you know that to make these ceremonial hats thousands of bears are being killed? This furry black hat is made from bear skin. For that, hundreds of bears are killed to take their skin.
The Royal Guards still make their hats from real bearskin, and one bear has to be shot to make one. pic.twitter.com/3WOrR4ipQY

The fur of the Canadian black bear is used to make hats for King’s Guard. However, not all officers in the King’s Guard wear the same type of hat. While normal soldiers wear hats made of the fur of black bears, the higher-ranking officers use brown fur. It is believed that the King’s Guard began to use these black hats since the 17th Century. One hat costs $650 to make.
Animal lovers have come out against killing bears to make the furry hat. Animal lovers are saying, on social media, that one bear is killed mercilessly to make one fur hat. They are demanding that the newly crowned King Charles III puts an end to this cruelty.
