GANDHINAGAR: It is reported that 91 people died after the suspension bridge across Machchu river collapsed in Morbi, Gujarat. It is suspected that more than 400 people fell into the river. Many people were injured in the accident. The incident happened around 6:30 pm on Sunday.
As per reports, there were more than 500 people on the bridge at the time of the incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered an emergency rescue operation. The bridge was opened to the public four days ago after renovation. The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the family members of the kin of people who lost their lives. Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi has left for Morbi.
