BHOPAL: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation has decided to change the names of two areas in the city. The authorities took the decision on the instructions of Bhopal MP and controversial BJP leader Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur. The Municipal Corporation has passed a resolution in this regard. Earlier, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur had demanded that the areas should be renamed as the old names are "impure".

In the council meeting held on Friday, the city council decided to change the name of the Halalpur bus stand to Hanuman Garhi bus stand and the name of Lal Ghati to Mahendra Narayan Das Ji Maharaj Sarveshwar Chauraha.

"The word 'Halal' in Halalpur is impure.By removing the symbol of slavery, we will be empowered to change the history of the country. We are ready to change the history of Bhopal,' Pragya Singh said.

The Bhopal MP added that it is necessary to rename Lal Ghati to forget the bloody past of witnessing many murders.
