Don’t spoil the future of our students

students

The Governor and the government are continuing their tussle in the University issue. Some say that the government’s stance is correct while others say that the Governor is right. After analyzing the right and wrong in the issue and if one of the sides win, the ultimate failure is faced by the students who were fated to have their academic studies during this time. Their future hangs in the balance. In addition, the image of the colleges in Kerala are getting tarnished both at the national and international level. This might have far reaching repercussions.

The situation at the Technological University is completely in a disarray. Exams results are not published even after six months. The degree certificates are not distributed even after applying for it by paying Rs.3000. Many students are losing their job opportunities and studies in foreign countries. The Supreme Court had cancelled the appointment of the VC of this University only recently. Therefore, the Governor gave the temporary responsibility of the VC to Ciza Thomas.

When Ciza Thomas came to take up her responsibility she was barred by university employees and the students. She was not given the register to sign. She was allowed into the University only after police arrived at the scene. When the news broke out that Ciza Thomas will be handed the temporary responsibility of the VC, numerous students send lots of complaints to here email.

Majority of the complaints by the students was that they did not get the degree certificates even after a year of completing the course. Those students who got campus selection are now fearing that they will be terminated because they are not able to produce their degree certificates to their employers.

Let the political bickering end at any time. No one really fails in it. Those who have won in their life and in society are those engaged in such tug-of-war. However, in the name of such politics the future of students coming from normal families must not be destroyed. Ciza Thomas’s announcement that priority will be given to distributing degree certificates and publishing exam results is a welcome move.

If the exam results are not published on time the students chance to join national educational institutions such as IIT and NIT will be lost. For this the cooperation of the employees at the university is inevitable. However, when they too tried to block the temporary VC from assuming office, it is doubtful that things will be done on time.

Hundreds of applications for degree certificates and other things are pending. In such a situation the employees joining the students in protesting against the temporary VC is ruining the future of the students of Technological University.

This is like lighting fire to one’s own house when feeling angry. Only if those such as the Controller of Exams try hard can the disorder be straightened out. In the present situation it is hard to imagine that things will be ready. If things remain like this till the government and Governor ends their conflicts then the loss to the university and the state is very high
