Think about how to become better

development

After the threat of Covid has abetted, the flow of tourists into Kerala is increasing. Though the number of foreign tourists is less compared to earlier years, the rise in domestic tourists have helped to overcome this. According to government data, in the period from January to September a total of 1.33 crore tourists came to Kerala. This shows that the share of tourism in Kerala’s total revenue is not at all small. It is sure that if infrastructure is developed and their travel made more easy, then there would be a higher inflow of tourists into the state.

If the government develops long term projects to develop many sectors, including tourism, then it would solve the issue of unemployment and bring in much awaited development. The sad reality is that such planning or discussions is not taking place seriously.

The development projects that are at different stages of completion must be finished quickly. If Railway development, new roads, Vizhinjam Port project, industrial parks, IT parks, etc. are completed on time, then the state government needed not approach the center every month for more funds.

The news that towns like Nedumangadu, Kodugallur, Malappuram, and Mancheri have been selected for Railway Ministry’s new project to connect towns with 50,000 population is a cause for celebration. There was also news that the long awaited Angamali- Erumeli Sabari line has been given permission by the railways. Together with this the Thiruvananthapuram – Kanyakumari, Kayamkulam – Alappuzha – Ernakulam doubling of railway track must be completed quickly.

The state is facing a situation where time and energy is wasted on unwanted and superficial political controversy when it must have been used to develop public services for the people. Even small projects which were begun to develop the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram have failed.

Nothing is being done for two weeks now at the Corporation office. In the name of the letter controversy, each day only fights and protests are going on there. Even when there were no issues, the Corporation used to give least importance to development issues.

Those who reach the capital city with vehicles have to circle the city many times to get a parking spot. There are no places for bus travelers to take shelter in the blazing sun. There are no public toilets. It is better not to say about the condition of the city’s roads. The issues faced by the city dwellers are many.

Are there any new projects to make the life of city dwellers easy? The political class must make sure that development projects are executed that can bring progress to the public rather than waste time in controversies.
