Versatile actress Asha Parekh said the country has become too westernized and Indian women opt for western clothes instead of the traditional outfits even for their weddings. She blamed fat women for wearing western clothes. Her controversial statement was while speaking at the 53rd International Film Festival in Goa. The actress had come to receive the Dada Saheb Phalke Award of 2020.
'Everything has changed. Even the movies being made today. We are too westernized. Women wear gowns for weddings. We have dresses like ghaghra choli, salwar- kammees and sarees. You wear them. Why don't you wear them? They just watch the heroines on the screen and copy them. They insist on wearing the same whether they are fat or not. Even fat women don't think whether western clothes will suit them or not. It is sad to see such westernization. We have a great culture, we have dance, music, but everyone is behind pop music,’ Asha Parekh said while speaking at the event.
