murder-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The quantum of sentence in the case of rape and murder of a foreign woman in Kovalam will be pronounced today. The Thiruvananthapuram district sessions court had earlier found Udayan, a tourist guide from Vazhamuttom and Umesh, an employee of a care taker firm, guilty.

The prosecution will request the court to award maximum punishment to the accused. The foreign woman went missing on March 14, 2018 after visiting a private Ayurvedic resort in the capital. The body of the woman was found in a marshy area in Poonamthuruth on April 20.

The accused approached the woman saying they were tourist guides and will show her the places. They raped and killed her after taking her to the forests. The accused were charged for murder, rape, use of drugs and destruction of evidence.

The case was proved by a team led by Thiruvananthapuram range IG Manoj Abraham. The investigating officers will be felicitated by the DGP today.
