NEW DELHI: The screening of the BBC documentary on the Gujarat riots will not take place at Jamia Millia University today. SFI has announced that the screening has been postponed. The screening was scheduled to start at 6 pm today. However, the university authorities closed the gates and tightened restrictions. The student leaders were taken into custody ahead of the screening. The authorities also disconnected the internet and electricity on the campus.
The authorities, which denied permission to any kind of gatherings within the campus, also warned that strict action will be taken against those who violate the instructions. The authorities accused the student organizations of attempting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere on the campus. A clash had erupted between the students and the police during the protest march of the students against the detention of the student leaders. The protesting students were forcibly removed by the police. NSU leader Abdul Hameed and Fraternity Movement Secretary Lubaib were taken into custody by the police.
