GUDALUR: A middle-aged woman was attacked and killed by a woman near Theppakadu in the Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu. The deceased has been identified as Anappadi native Maari (50). The tiger attacked Maari when she went to collect firewood near her house on Tuesday evening. The half-eaten body of Maari was found at around 5 am yesterday morning 200 meters away from Mudhumalai Elephant Camp during a search conducted by the locals and forest officials.

Following this, the locals besieged the Mysore-Ooty Road demanding compensation for Maari's family and the immediate shooting of the tiger. The protest came to an end after higher officials of the Forest Department reached the spot and assured the villagers that the department will provide compensation of Rs 5 lakhs as emergency assistance.
