Riyan Parag replaces Sanju; team management makes official announcement

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Royals have announced a new captain after Malayali star Sanju V. Samson left the team. Riyan Parag has been named as the new captain of the franchise. Sanju had moved to Chennai Super Kings during the trading window ahead of the IPL auction. 24-year-old Parag has been playing for Rajasthan Royals since making his IPL debut in 2019. He made his debut for the franchise at the age of 17.

Last season, Parag led Rajasthan in eight matches after Sanju Samson was ruled out due to injury. Though he could not make a big impact as captain in terms of results, he impressed with the bat. He had an average of 38.57 in those eight matches as captain. His highest score was 95 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders. When Sanju left the team, Parag’s name was among the first to be mentioned as a possible replacement.
