LAHOREL: Babar Azam has stepped down from his role of white-ball captain of the Pakistan Cricket team. He wrote on his X handle, that he likes to enjoy his batting, improve his performance and spend quality time with his family. His post said, Dear fans, ‘I’m sharing some news with you. I have decided to resign as the captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket tea as per the notice given to the PCB and the team management. It’s been an honour to lead this team, but it's time for me to step down and focus on my playing role.
Captaincy has been a rewarding experience, but it’s added a significant workload. I want to prioritize my performance, enjoy my batting and spend quality time with my
family. Babar noted that he is happy to contribute more for the team as a player. But Babar's decision to resign did not go down well with cricket lovers and Pakistan cricket fans. They are making harsh accusations against Babar Azam in the cyber world. While some recall Babar's history of consistent defeats in ICC tournaments, others make fun of him resigning twice.
How many times will he resign? When some people ask, 'He is a shameless person. If they (Pakistan Cricket Board) say any more, he will unashamedly take the captaincy again.' This is the opinion of some. Some comment that this is bad news for India, England and Australia and who will give free points in the World Cup.
Babar initially resigned in November last year due to Pakistan's very poor performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Later, Shaheen Shah Afridi became the captain. However, after the series defeat, Shaheen also lost his place. After this, Babar became the hero again. But this time they lost to England by 0-2. In the subsequent Twenty20World Cup, Pakistan was eliminated in the group stage itself. They were defeated against the USA.
